Building at Bear Lake: common questions
If your question isn’t here, call and ask. Each service page has questions specific to that kind of work, too.
Getting started
What kind of work does Bear Lake Construction do?
New homes and cabins, remodels and additions, excavation and foundations, roads and driveways, utility work like water and sewer lines, and flooring and tile. Because we do the dirt work and the building, one company can take a project from an empty lot to a finished house.
How do I get started on a project?
Call and tell us what you have in mind: what you want built or changed, where it is, and roughly when you’d like it done. From there we can talk through what the job involves and set a time to look at it.
Are you licensed?
Yes. We’re licensed and bonded in Idaho, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada and California. In Idaho we also hold a public works contractor license and a complex septic installer license.
Do you take on public works projects?
Yes. We hold an Idaho public works contractor license, so we can bid and build public projects as well as private ones.
How long has Bear Lake Construction been in business?
More than 25 years, all of it in Bear Lake Valley. We’re based in Bloomington, Idaho.
Scheduling
When is the best time to schedule a building project at Bear Lake?
Plan in the winter, build in the summer. Excavation can’t start until the ground thaws, and the dry months fill up fast, so the projects that get started in spring are the ones that were planned before it. Interior work like remodels and tile can be scheduled any time of year.
Do you work through the winter?
Inside, yes. Remodels, finishing, flooring and tile carry on through the winter. Digging, foundations and road work wait for the ground to thaw, because frozen ground can’t be excavated or built on properly.
Where we work
What areas do you serve?
We’re based in Bloomington, in Bear Lake Valley, and most of our work is in the valley and the country around it. We’re licensed in Idaho, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada and California, so we take on projects further afield too. If yours is somewhere else, call and ask.
Do you build cabins and homes on the hillsides above the lake?
Yes. Those lots are often steep, rocky and overgrown, which is exactly where doing our own clearing, excavation, roads and utilities pays off: the ground work and the house are planned together instead of by different companies.
Still have a question?
Tell us what you want to build, fix or dig, and where. You’ll be talking to someone from the valley who knows the ground.
